How Not to Go Backwards and Keep Moving Forward… Or Don’t Just Burn the Candy

Burning Candy, Make Progress, Keep Moving Forward
A few weeks ago I had an injury. Nothing too major, just a swollen knee. I cut back my exercising a bit. It left me get more writing done, but I also felt a bit sluggish and weak. I’m not in great shape to begin with, so this was not good. As soon as I felt it was okay I got started again. I’m back to running now and while it is harder again, it feels pretty good. Today I passed a few milestones and went a good deal further than I had over the last few days. I was on my cool down sort of congratulating myself when I had a thought in my spirit.

“You just burned the candy you ate yesterday.” What a crushing blow. I could have done myself some real good in my weight loss journey (I am sweating like a pig as I write this) but instead, I broke even. Well… maybe I broke even, but more than likely I am a little further behind.

Now make no mistake about it, I know I am a lot farther ahead than if I had not run, but my point is this. How many times are our best efforts just “burning candy?” i.e. cleaning up the messes of our own bad decisions.

Make better choices today. The best way to progress is to keep moving forward one good decision at a time.
