Why Worry?…

Posted by John Wallace

Think hard about this one question: Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” Matthew 6:25-27 NLT

I’ll be honest, worry is a tough one. Worry is sneaky. Sometimes it’s not always an obvious “freak-out” or a huge “break-down”. Sometimes worry is just a tiny seed of a thought. Most times we don’t think much of it. But the problem is, that seed, if not acted upon, will take root and grow into something nasty.

Worry, for me most times, isn’t because of a lack of knowledge…it’s because I don’t trust what my heart believes. I know that God is able to do anything. I know that God is with me, and I know that God’s hand of protection, blessing, peace, and joy are on me; BUT, sometimes, I just don’t believe that He actually will come through for me. Worry is usually linked to a trust issue. Thankfully God’s grace is abundant and I am getting much better at trusting Him. I can say that I’m trusting Him more everyday…and so can you! :)

One of the reasons why I love the verse above so much is because it not only plays to your heart, but also your head. The truth is, God is total control. The birds never worry, that concept is completely foreign to them. So if God will take care of the birds, how much more will He take care of you and me, a creation made in His likeness. Amazing!

Today, keep close watch on your thoughts. Don’t let worry become a subconscious act. I can’t say this enough but trust Him today. Trust Him with your finances, with your health, with your goals, and with your life. He is worthy. He is able. He is in control and He will come through for you.

What are you worrying about today?
