Why Saying “No” Is Good For You

Do you ever have a hard time saying “No” to someone? As a serial people pleaser I know I do. I have a strong desire to help people and to be liked. Unfortunately, this often leaves me frustrated and stretched too far.

I’m learning the art of saying, “No.” I say it’s an art because we can say “no” to someone and still be nice to them. Saying “no” doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, there are some good benefits to saying “no” to people.

By saying “No” you can…

  • Say “yes” to something else.
  • Spend more time doing what’s really important to you.
  • Have more free time.
  • Develop more meaningful relationships, instead of superficial ones.
  • Feel good about yourself, without feeling guilty.
  • Manage your time better.
  • Break your addiction to get the approval of others.
  • Serve people who really need you and value your help.
  • Spend more quality time with your family. (I think we all could use this.)

Let’s practice saying it one time. All together now, “No”!

Question: What else could you do by saying, “No”?
