Prescription for Peace

"Karen, you need to find peace." Dr. David looked straight into my eyes as he spoke those words.

My husband Dan nodded in agreement, as we concluded our doctor's appointment.

"I know," I agreed. "And would you believe--I'm writing a book on REST?"

Everything pointed to my need for rest and peace--elevated blood pressure, increased headaches, weight gain, panic attacks, insomnia--all evidence of my high stress level. And everyone in my life agreed--my doctor, my husband, my family, and my friends. Even the direction of my work proved the focus of my thoughts, as I wrote about REST.

So, how and where can I find REST and the peace that I need? That is my prayer today as I embrace God's prescription for peace. And I'm hanging on to this promise:

The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:5-6 NIV)

How or where do you find peace?
