Controversy is swirling around former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino upon the release of two of her most recent tweets speaking negatively about homosexuality and the legalization of weed. She states: “I am a Christian first…person second. I believe in the Bible and have to use my spirit of discernment. Gay is a sin. This week we launched a new series in our Christ Community Chapel (Stow Campus) student ministries called “Countercultural.” In this series we are talking about some issues that we think are relevant to our culture right now. Recently I met a sharp business guy in our church for lunch who has been reluctant to buy into the whole Christianity thing. He asked, “Do I have to believe that homosexuality is wrong to become a Christian?” I get asked that a lot, along with a whole slew of questions about homosexuality that I’ve been reluctant to talk about publicly. Recently, Rachel Held Evans shared a video on her blog in which a young man, Matthew Vines, addresses all of the passages in the Bible regarding homosexuality. He attempts to argue that the Bible isn’t against committed homosexual relationships. I wanted to take a moment and respond with my thoughts. (I assume that you either watched the video or are familiar with the arguments; I don’t take time to fully explain each point below.) Sodom –»

Whether we are discussing homosexuality, adultery, hatred towards others, or any other kind of sin, it is important that we go to the Bible to see what it has to say vs what we have to say or think. There is always a great temptation especially within the culture to engage in conversations that aren’t loving or helpful towards one another when discussing “hot topic” items. In today’s culture, homosexuality is for sure one of those topics.»

Before I looked to see what the next section was of Corinthians, I was curious, given the recent events, if it would be the passage that talks about the sinfulness of homosexuality. As the country talks about “what it means” in regards to the Supreme Court decision about DOMA, we stumble upon what the Apostle Paul had to say about homosexuality. Indeed, here it is. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inheri»
